History

From an industrial Toole Avenue address to a broader Tucson presence, this is the concise Borderlands record.

Borderlands Brewing began around 2010/2011 at 119 E Toole Avenue in downtown Tucson.

The original downtown setting helped define a straightforward local identity: Southern Arizona beer, ingredients sourced locally where possible, resource-conscious production, and a brewery mission that included education and community.

A Tucson timeline

  1. Borderlands Brewing began at 119 E Toole Ave, establishing its downtown Tucson brewery home.

  2. The company developed a portfolio of Southern Arizona beers while emphasizing local ingredients, sustainability, education, and community.

  3. Borderlands expanded beyond Toole Avenue to North at 5605 E River Rd STE 201 and Sam Hughes at 2500 E 6th St.

  4. Borderlands-branded brewing became inactive.

  5. The original Downtown / Toole Avenue location closed.

  6. The North location closed. Sam Hughes continued under independent/new operation.

The historical mission

The brewery’s mission joined craft production with a sense of place. That meant using local ingredients where practical, working to reduce operational impact, and treating beer as a subject for learning and shared experience as well as a product.
